It’s spring in Charlotte, North Carolina, home of forensic botanist and garden shop owner, Peggy Lee. This spring has been beautiful, as always, with flowering trees and blue skies.
But a killer is on the loose, and seems determined to destroy everyone and everything she cares about.
When her garden shop, the Potting Shed, is brutally vandalized, Peggy doesn’t realize that it is only the beginning. Her son, Paul, who has been moonlighting as a private detective to investigate the death of his father, John Lee, is suspected of murder when a mink coat lined with poison kills the woman who is wearing it.
Peggy identifies the particularly virile blend of botanical poisons in the coat. Unfortunately, her work as a specialist with plant poisons makes Paul even more interesting to the police. When attacks against her and her family continue, Peggy must go back through her years of sleuthing to finger the person responsible . . . before it’s too late.

Another interesting and exciting cozy from writing and real life duo Joyce and Jim Lavene.
I had not yet read the books of the Peggy Lee series and was not familiar with forensic botanists other than watching those tv CSI shows. How extraordinary that one town would have two and they would live next door to each other. You gotta love cozies!
The family relationships in this series remind me of favorite tv shows Blue Bloods and The Closer with their law enforcement traditions and connections.
Nothing about this series is predictable.
While the murder in this story is not only to human victims I am pleased to note no animals (other than fish) are harmed in this mystery.

It has become a frequent and welcome addition to cozy mysteries to include recipes.
With Peggy being a botanist, I was pleased to find plant informational and historical snippets between chapters.

The action starts with an early morning phone call that can not be ignored.
Whatever has happened at The Potting Shed can't be described over the phone. Having such destruction at the beginning of landscaping season and so close to Mother's Day is a financial nightmare on top of the emotional turmoil. It is the perfect situation to discover who your true friends are.
Throughout this book trust and honesty play major roles. Secrets will be revealed.

This is a fast paced, complicated mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end -- with an additional end complication that guarantees you won't want to miss whatever happens next.

I did receive a copy of this book in exchange for my review.
