When Seattle yoga teacher Kate Davidson agrees to teach doga (yoga for dogs) at a fundraiser for a local animal rescue, she believes the only damage will be to her reputation. But a few downward-facing dogs are the least of Kate’s problems when an animal rights protest at the event leads to a suspicious fire and a drowning.
The police arrest a woman claiming to be Kate’s estranged mother and charge her with murder. To prove her innocence, Kate, boyfriend Michael, and German shepherd sidekick Bella dive deeply into the worlds of animal activism, organizational politics, and the dangerous obsessions that drive them. All while discovering that when it comes to murder, there’s no place like hOMe.
An interesting combination of yoga, relationship issues and meshing lifestyles, animal rescue drama and conflicting values. While this book does well as a stand alone, the Orcas references will be better understood if you have read previous books in the series.
Yoga instructor Kate Davidson is an animal lover. Her boyfriend, Michael, is a major supporter of local animal rescue Dogma, and organized a fundraising event, including volunteering Kate's services to instruct a DOGA (dog yoga) session. Animal rescue has much more going on behind the scenes than most people want to know about.
Every time Kate has a new suspect or theory, the plot twists. Best friend Rene, pregnant with twins, can't resist trying to figure out clues and doing some unauthorized sleuthing on her own.
When someone with information about Kate's past shows up, Kate's thoughts and emotions become even more conflicted and unfocused than usual.
