All eyes turn to her as the suspect. If she wants to stay out of jail or even keep her job, Julienne needs all the help she can get to solve the crime.
She has her work cut out for her with a vengeful high school rival now reporter, the public demanding she be fired, plus family who knows what's best for her, and a boyfriend who doesn't understand her. She turns to friends and a new ally to uncover who wanted to put the pastor on ice.
Julienne goes undercover and investigates a local swingers group as she follows the trail of clues before they go cold. Can she gather enough suspects and motives to convince the police to widen their investigation? Can she do it before the killer sets his murderous sights on her? Will her personal life ever be as simple as unveiling a murderer?

 GUEST Spotlight

 Julienne LaMere

Thank you for inviting me, you have a lovely place here (looking around and fidgeting).

All this attention is a bit, well, unnerving.  Not that I don’t appreciate it, I just don’t like dwelling on the murder that took place at the luncheon I coordinated.  That was a bad day all around.

The luncheon was a pain in the backside from the beginning.
As the event coordinator at a luxury resort, it’s up to me to make every event shine.  Dealing with the public is a challenge and this was a work out.  Maybe that should have been a clue as to what was coming.
But I never expected to get grabbed by the celebrity pastor attendee.  That saying pain-in-the-butt became all too real.  Gulp.

Within minutes the grabby pastor is skewered on the pointy end of the fancy swordfish ice sculpture and I’m being eyed for arrest.  What was I supposed to do?
I had to give the cops other viable suspects. I had no choice, really.

I love my job, it’s the answer to my life long ambition.  I want to travel, but not for a just week or two but rather a couple of years in each location.  Resort management is my ticket and I’m learning on-the-job.  I wasn’t going to let my dreams perish because of Pastor Tom; even if I wasn’t arrested the article in the local paper by a high school rival with a grudge was jeopardizing all my hard work.
See, I had no choice but to get involved.

I fully understand I’m not an investigator.  That’s why I took a temporary job with the caterers for the funeral reception.  Yeah, they catered the reception because Pastor Drake was a big deal, a rising star on the national stage with his mega-church.  People talked and I got my first insights that Pastor had a thing for teen girls…maybe even swinging, and even people in his church or his own wife had motive.  Shiver.

I guess I should mention Mason.  He moved in across the street the day Pastor Drake was…speared.
My best friend Porsche described him as tall, dark, and yummy.  He threw a wrench into my settled…okay quiet, ummmm alright - stagnant personal life.  When things got a bit dicey he was there to keep me safe.
Cough

All in all, it was a tough couple of weeks.  Thanks for asking.

Complicated and Controversial
All Julienne wants is to do a good job, prove herself in her role as an event organizer and move on to bigger, better, more exciting opportunities. Unfortunately her life is a mixture of safe and predictable along with her big dreams.
Until one day she finds herself in the wrong place, responding automatically and suddenly, as a result, she becomes the number one suspect in the murder of a local celebrity.

This is a bit grittier than most cozy mysteries I have read.
Julienne's personal life is affected in all aspects, from her family rallying around her to an overdue change in her relationship status to potentially losing her career.
The renowned Pastor who meets his end made enemies through various shady activities, all only slightly hidden. They are discussed with tact in the book and come across as quite plausible.
The story moves along quickly as danger to Julienne escalates.
Her friends are quite charming and the new neighbor (and his dog) surprisingly attractive.

  2. I really enjoyed the description of the book. I like that Julienne is an event planner and finds the body. And, what role will Mason play?

  3. ohhhhh....You want to know more about Mason! Think Hugh Jackman and Adrian Turner combined. He is interested in Julienne, but knows she is having some relationship problems with her boyfriend. He steps in when Julienne needs protection. She likes to refer to him as Bond Jr. and swears she in more a Bourne girl....but is she really?
