Lucky Charmed

LUCKY CHARMED
by Sharla Lovelace

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Pub Date: 7/18/2017

Charmed, Texas, is as warm and welcoming as it sounds. But even in a small town, when it comes to love, sometimes you’ve got to take the bitter with the sweet . . .
Carmen Frost hates honey. And bees. And in her hometown of Charmed, Texas, which practically invented the stuff, that’s a problem. The good news is that the summer Honey Festival is finally over. Even better, so is the annual Lucky Hart carnival, a road show that made off with her dreams years ago—including the boy she loved. Now she’s got a divorce behind her, and a successful law career in front of her, but in a tiny town, big memories die hard. Or they don’t die at all—as Carmen discovers when she runs into an all too familiar pair of eyes—older, wiser, and just as heart-melting as ever . . .
Sully Hart has had enough of the nomad lifestyle. Travelling with his father’s carnival gave him adventures, but it cost him much more. Now he’s home to stay, contracted to create an entertainment complex in Charmed. He wants roots, a house with a yard and all the mundane pleasures that go with it. But the girl he loved has become a woman who still wants freedom. Can she still want him? It seems he and Carmen are at each other’s throats one minute—and on each other’s lips the next. Someone’s gotta give . . .

Another review compared Sharla's writing to a feeling of coming home. I whole heartedly agree. I reside in a small, gossipy, long-holding grudge town where people make assumptions. Rumor is more entertaining than fact. I also spent some time being one of those carnies. From that perspective, we look much worse from an outsider's point of view. Some of us even attended college.
To live in Charmed, TX and not like honey would be like living at the North Pole and hating snow.
It just doesn't make for happily ever after.

When a childhood summer romance (yes, 18 is still childhood) reflects not only on Carmen's life, but also negatively impacts an entire town, you know this is an emotion that has some power.
We'll discover as time goes on that Carmen's relationship is not the only strong emotion complicating things. I can't give it away here. Carmen doesn't learn all the secrets for fifteen years, including some about her own parents.

With some laugh out loud moments mixed in with breath holding scenes, this is an exciting and fun summer escape read. Things are changing in Charmed as the former run through town Carnie returns to buy up a major portion. The fact that said carnie once had a romance with the town wild child makes the rumors and speculation all the more juicy. Will they or won't they reconnect?
Should they or should they really be at each others' throats? Which would still be entertainment for the town gossips.

I enjoyed the semi magical moments and coincidences thrown in along the way and can't wait for the story to continue. This is a romance guaranteed not to move forward smoothly.
