A Deadly Eclair by Daryl Wood Gerber

A Deadly Éclair

BOOK #1

Available November 7, 2017
It's always been Mimi Rousseau's dream to open her own bistro, but it seems beyond her grasp since she's been chased back home to Nouvelle Vie in Napa Valley by her late husband's tremendous debt. That is until her best friend Jorianne James introduces her to entrepreneur Bryan Baker who enjoys investing in promising prospects. Now, with her own bistro and inn, Mimi is throwing the inn's first wedding ever.
The wedding will be the talk of the town, as famous talk show host Angelica Edmonton, daughter of Bryan's half-brother, Edison, has chosen the inn as her perfect venue. Anxious, Mimi is sure things are going to turn south, especially when Edison gets drunk and rowdy at the out-of-towners' dinner, but by the evening, things begin to look up again. That is until the morning rolls around, and Bryan is found dead on the premises with an éclair stuffed in his mouth. And the fingers point at Mimi, whose entire loan is forgiven in Bryan's will.
It's up to Mimi to clear her name and get to the bottom of things before the killer turns up the heat again in A Deadly Éclair, the scrumptious series debut by Agatha Award-winning author Daryl Wood Gerber.

Do not read this book on an empty stomach. Perhaps it pairs well with a fine wine.
Aliens, Ghosts, Glonkirks, and Jewelers all play a role in this delicious cozy mystery.

My vocabulary also got a workout, which I enjoy. Reading a good cozy should expand your world and this does that very well.

Weddings should be a joyous time, with family and business associates all coming together to celebrate. We all know what happens when extended family gets together- secrets slip and tempers flare.  But murder? Thankfully that is not a regular result.
Unfortunately this time there is murder and the victim seemed to be the most likable person anyone knew. Was the method of murder leaving a message?

Mimi is constantly in motion, a very hands on manager involved in all decisions. Even when she takes time to enjoy a local music festival, and perhaps the company of a handsome man, or when she visits a local art gallery, she manages to put herself in danger. At least by midway she seems more aware of the danger she attracts.

I enjoyed the investigative aspects of the book and figuring out who killed the victim took a long time.
