THE SIREN'S TOUCH by Amber Belldene

The Siren's Touch
by Amber Belldene
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Publisher: Kensington/Lyrical
Release Date: July 21, 2015

One touch can change everything…

Hitman Dmitri Lisko is determined to avenge his father. Once he takes out the man he believes is responsible for his family’s tragedies, he’s done killing for good. But a mysterious woman may tempt Dmitri to change his plan.

Sonya Truss was murdered in a Ukrainian village in 1968. Now she’s reappeared in San Francisco as a rusalka—the ghost of a wronged woman. And she’s thirsty for the blood of her killer. But she has to make things right before she’s trapped between worlds forever.

Sonya's enigmatic siren powers stir Dmitri's long-buried chivalry, and he finds himself compelled to help her. He also can’t resist giving her a taste of the pleasures she never experienced while she was alive. Soon they discover that touch has surprising consequences. Yet when their shared mission comes to cross-purposes, they must choose between deadly sacrifice—or surrendering to the one act that can save them both.

The teapot jostled like there was a frog inside.

He had to be hallucinating. Holy hell, he’d never been this hungover. Then again, he’d never been on a thirty-day bender either. Quitting cold turkey after a vodka-soaked month was bound to be rough on the system. The teapot was definitely not jittering, only his sanity. Caffeine might help.

He lifted the little round thing by the handle. A gust of steam poured out as deep-brown liquid trickled from its spout into his mug—an antique glass cup wrapped in silver filigree. In his hand, the teapot shook, jostling his arm.

Damn it. That was no hallucination.

A sudden puff of steam collided with his face. He set the teapot down and wiped his moist eyes. When he opened them again, he was certain he’d lost his mind.

Hovering over Elena’s postcard-perfect traditional Ukrainian table setting was a shimmering tea-colored woman. No, not a woman.

He reached for his weapon, knocking his chair to the floor. Scrambling across the room, he got as far as he could get from that...thing.

Back pressed to the wall, his heart drummed against his sternum. What the hell was she?

She dripped brown droplets of smoky Russian Caravan onto the table and gasped for air with her gossamer hands clasped at her neck. Her brown eyes stretched wide in her heart-shaped face.

Had he completely lost his mind? “Fuck.”

The thing yelped, flying away and leaving a sprinkling of tea droplets in her wake. As they fell to the ground, she grew whiter, becoming the soft, shiny color of a perfect pearl.

A ghost. Holy hell.

All his skin rose up in goose bumps. Could you shoot a ghost? Or a hallucination? He was damn sure going to try. He took aim.

She coughed and coughed and coughed some more, making a horrible wet retching sound. Then she darted to a spot near the window, bending her spectral shape over to hack, as if she could clear her throat. Only it didn’t seem to be working.

Without thinking, he lowered his weapon. “Breathe, girl. Be calm.”

Slowly, she straightened, and her chest rose and fell in the rhythm of breath. The sun shone through her translucent form, highlighting a smoking hot set of curves under a long, wet nightgown. Large brown nipples poked through the ghostly, damp fabric, and a dark vee between her legs drew his gaze.

Amber Belldene is always reading racy books at the most inappropriate times, and has been observed ogling her Kindle in the church parking lot. Even as a kid, she hid novels inside the service bulletin to read during sermons, an irony that is not lost on her when she preaches these days. Amber is a romance writer and Episcopal priest who believes sexuality is vital to spirituality, love is beautifully messy, and stories are the best way to explore human truths. Evidence of these convictions can be found in Amber's steamy paranormals and quirky, hot contemporaries, which have been published by Omnific, Entangled, and Lyrical/Kensington. She lives with her husband and two children in San Francisco and can be found at

THE SUMMER DIARY by Elyse Douglas

The Summer Diary
by Elyse Douglas

After her best friend and husband are killed in an airplane crash, a young woman finds her best friend’s diary and learns that she was secretly in love with another man, a soldier.
Determined to find the secret lover, Keri sets off on a journey and discovers the key to her destiny.

Keri noticed that Sophia’s handwriting was clearer than her usual rushed script, when she often
left out commas and didn’t always cross her t’s.  The dots for the i’s were usually far from the
intended letter, or left out entirely.

In the diary, Sophia wrote with care and precision, seemingly enjoying the process of
documenting her thoughts and emotions.
I’m going to call this my “Summer Diary,” because when I’m finished filling all these pages,
summer will be over, I’ll be married, I’ll fire my shrink and I’ll toss this thing into the fire.
For now, I’m having fun.  I can write any damned thing I want and nobody will ever know it or see it. I can be crude or selfish, sexy or crazy.  Who cares?  It’s only me talking to me, and when it’s all
over—into the fire, baby, and forever forgotten.

My shrink is right, it’s very freeing to write down whatever you feel.  Whatever you think.
It’s like being in a hot air balloon or skydiving or being in bed with a sexy guy who absolutely sends you into spasms of ecstasy.

Okay, I feel wonderfully wicked.  I went to lunch with the guy—oh what the hell—his name is
Ryan.  No last name, though.  We ate hamburgers and drank dark beer at the Main Street Café.
He’s quiet, doesn’t talk much, but wow, he is the sexiest man I’ve ever met.  He oozes with it,
but he seems to keep it inside, which really turns me on.  Never met a guy like him.  He’s like an
unopened treasure chest, and girl oh girl, would I like to ride on top of that chest!

Elyse Douglas is the pen name for the married writing team Elyse Parmentier
and Douglas Pennington. Elyse grew up near the sea, roaming the beaches, reading and writing
stories and poetry, receiving a Degree in English Literature.  She has enjoyed careers as an
English teacher, an actress and a speech-language pathologist.
She and her husband, Douglas Pennington, have completed five novels: The Other Side of Summer, Christmas for Juliet, Wanting Rita, Christmas Ever After, The Christmas Town and The Christmas Diary.

Douglas grew up in a family where music and astrology were second and third languages.  He
attended the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music and played the piano professionally for
many years. His two detective books include Death is Lookin' for ELVIS and Death is a
TAPDANCER.  His great, great grandfather lived to be 132 years old, and was the oldest man in
the world when he died in 1928.

Branding 360°: Simplified Guide to Practical Branding

About the Book

Title: Branding 360: Simplified Guide to Practical Branding
Author: Scofray Nana Yaw Yeboah
Genre: Non-Fiction

Branding 360 bring to readers a simplified practical guide to
branding. It opens up dimensions that even students and experts of
branding find difficult to implement.

Topics such as Definition of branding which practically explains the
subject matter e.g Uniqueness, Distinction and Difference one or
company must be in branding.

The difference between Brand Identity and logo design.

How to consider and promote Feedback as a form of brand.
How to deploy Efficiency as form of branding to maximize its practicality and competitive advantage.
How to understand a good corporate brand starts with good investment into employee branding.

Personal branding is handled as the denominator of holistic branding.
The use of social media to handle one's character as product.
Transformation Messages to spur you on with the knowledge and depth acquired from this book.

Some will call this book holistic branding, others might call it branding made simple but it is indeed Branding 360, meaning all rounded and all seasoned branding, made simple and practicable

Distinction can be looked at in two key forms, DIFFER and UNIQUE.
In branding rule number one, you must be able to define exactly that difference you are, the difference you want to stand for, and the difference whatever service you want to render or stand for. The cut to fit “difference” is what gives birth to the:

DIFFER: Branding to create distinction is characterized with the difference you make. Everybody sells koko (porridge), but what is the difference between your koko (porridge), and my koko (porridge)?

Somebody will say okay, I use millet, another person will say I use maize, and yet another probably
uses rice, but it’s the distinction that will draw customers. In a case where two women are selling
millet-porridge, it will take a clear distinction to state the actual difference between them.
Let me quickly give you another example. McDonalds and KFC were not the first of their kind but the difference they stood for brought the distinction which buyers wanted when they patronized their

Today when you mention McDonalds, it quickly syncs with hamburgers which, as at 1940 was only a barbecue joint operated by Richard and Maurice McDonald.

In 1948, they reorganized their business as a hamburger stand using the production line principle.
By 1948 there were other people in the hamburger business but they chose to be quite different and
created a distinction (niche) for themselves. When you mention KFC- Kentucky Fried Chicken, it syncs with fast food and a clear distinction with chicken. Harland Sanders founded a new form of fast food with chicken using a said 11 recipe by Sanders during the American depression, which was an era when hamburger was domineering. We are now in an era of smartphones.
Sometime ago in the cellular phones generation; we all know how Nokia was a leading giant. We could say their durability was their niche and distinction, as well as their battery life-span.

UNIQUE: That is the unique part of every human being. It can be considered as your signature DNA.   Whatever you give birth to, your uniqueness for which reason you gave birth to whatever it is must
show. You can’t say you are a football administrator if you don’t love football. It will never blend. You can’t say I want to invest into football but I don’t love football. What you don’t have uniqueness about, it’s very difficult to make an impact on it.

If you look at the way nursing was branded before it became a profession or a career, somebody
fought all the odds, and actually added something unique to it, and that is exactly what Florence
Nightingale did. She left her luxurious home to go into the trenches, so one can say nursing
profession was built from the trenches, from the war front or battlefield, where people had virtually
given up, or had no hope, and gross despondency was the reality.
It was from these same grounds she started from, which got her to be christened “The lady of the lamp.” Meaning, where people wouldn’t dare to go, she did. It was her uniqueness that changed the face of nursing.

While very brief and can be read quite quickly, this is more than just an amazing business book.
The information and examples contained within cover the lessons and requirements of successfull brands better than most full weekend business seminars. Also explained is how branding is more than a name and a logo. The associations formed by a company AND by their spokespeople plus the actions of their employees all are meaningful representations of a brand.
Branding applies on a personal level as well. There is a wonderful section on social media and how individuals can misrepresent and dilute their brands. A favorite quote from the book:
If there were no hope for you in the days ahead, you wouldn't have had life from yesternight into this morning.

This book would be valuable to businesses of all sizes and at all stages.
It should also be required reading for teenagers and young adults.

No Bull Information Blog Review Tour

Title: No Bull Information
Author: Dr. John Gamble
Publisher: Morgan James Publishing
Genre: Psychological/Self-Help
Format: Hardcover/Paperback/Kindle/Nook
166 pages

In his new book, NO BULL INFORMATION, Dr. John Gamble challenges readers to confront the Information Age by abandoning simplistic thinking and taking a measured approach that requires asking questions to analyze and understand complicated issues, to
identify and avoid word traps, and to effectively dissect and comprehend numbers frequently used to confuse voters and consumers.
Dr. Gamble uses humor and a wise cartoon character, Arnbi, to guide the reader through the maze of political doublespeak, expert-celebrity pitches of products, and healthcare options, among other issues.
With a focus on helping Americans to become better prepared to deal with the massive amounts of information that they face on a daily basis, NO BULL INFORMATION (NBI)
instructs readers in developing “a new type of literacy.”
NBI seeks to create an educated citizenry that can sift through information, identify the facts, and determine the best way to manage those facts. Dr. Gamble asserts that the super citizens who accept the challenge of NBI will make better decisions, which will lead to a reduction in financial disasters and government inefficiency.
Gamble’s cartoon sidekick, Arnbi, supports the NBI movement by offering targeted advice that summarizes many of the key principles outlined in NO BULL INFORMATION, including:

 Too bad, but “simple” is a square peg that seldom fits into the round hole that is our modern world.

 Facts are necessary but they must be put into context (PUTFiC).

 Vested interests are everywhere—recognize them.

Breaking down words and numbers is the foundation of NBI. In one section of the book, Gamble walks the reader through a basic lesson in understanding percentages and statistics.
“You need to understand numbers enough not to be deceived.”
In one intriguing illustration, Gamble compares the Pentagon’s budget of $700 billion to a two-liter bottle and a proposed $20 million in spending to one drop of water from an eyedropper
placed in that bottle. “It is a helpful strategy for understanding large numbers that are thrown at us every day by politicians and salespeople.”

Stressing the necessity of analytical thinking, Gamble explores the use of words in “bull-laden” information and the need to guard against what the author calls “landmine words and phrases”; for example, quite frankly, my good friend, clinical studies prove, award winning, and as seen on TV.
Dr. Gamble uses guidance survey and focus cards to demonstrate how readers can practice NBI in their daily lives. The cards cover nine areas each (Survey cards: sampling, word warnings, vested interests, etc. Focus cards: infomercials, supermarkets, credit, etc.). The cards include questions that help the reader to analyze a particular situation (buying a new cell phone, for example) and offer guidance for making decisions.
“I have been a college professor for more than thirty years. I am convinced that there are serious problems with the way information is presented and understood,” Gamble says.
“This affects all Americans. I am writing for and to them.”

The idea for NO BULL INFORMATION came to Gamble about ten years ago as he observed the difficulty his Penn State undergraduate students were having adjusting to
the Information Age. “NBI was inspired by hundreds of students in scores of classes I have taught. It was an iterative process: a class inspired an idea for NBI that I took back to class to test before including it in the book.”
Gamble believes that people who read NO BULL INFORMATION will “gain a sense of empowerment, like a life preserver when we feel we are drowning in a mass of information.”

 No Bull Information is available at Amazon.

 Pick up your copy at Barnes & Noble.

 Discuss this book at PUYB Virtual Book Club at Goodreads.

"Facts may be accurate but still paint a distorted picture."
The goal of both the concept of NBI and the book is to open the reader's mind to interpret facts in the proper context to be understood without the distortion, to be presented without misleading the receiver to false conclusions. Our lives, our understanding, are colored by our experiences up to the present point. There is no doubt persons presenting information most often have a motive or agenda. Never hesitate to ask for clarification.

The author does a good job of explaining his point of view, but my eyes still glazed over at the statistics section. He may have ruined skipping stones for me by over analysis.
I was  interested in the discourse on the effects of WWII as it relates to our present health care system. He also highlights some unpredicted results of the creation of a National highway system. Anywhere you open this book you can find a  topic which will lead to lively discussions.
I particularly appreciated the author's thoughts about the "As Seen On TV" sales craze.
I found the section on Landmine Words and Phrases" interesting and enlightening, the Word Warnings both useful and amusing.

"A final chapter should do more than repeat..."
So you will be rewarded by reading to the end.

Book Excerpt:

Introductions to books are difficult, especially when writing about a topic as broad as
information. This is true for me. I have been a college professor for more than 30 years.
I am convinced there are serious problems with the way information is presented and
understood. This affects all Americans. I am writing for and to them.

At the most basic level, this book is about facts, basic units of information. I explain how
facts are the building blocks of information and understanding. "Fact traps" are
everywhere, many very subtle. As you'll see, understanding facts and what to do with
them involves far more than recognizing and discarding misinformation. Often that is the
easy part. Far more important is understanding facts, where they fit, and what to do with them.

On March 2, 1962, a basketball player scored 100 points in a single game. On the face of
it, this seems like quite a big deal. But we must go further and put the fact into context.
We need to know this was in the NBA, the premier professional basketball league in the
world. The player, Wilt Chamberlain, was one of the greatest players who ever lived.
This record has never been matched. 1 It’s only in the context of this additional
information that we can truly appreciate what an achievement Chamberlain accomplished
in that game.

Americans need to be better equipped to evaluate the massive amounts of information
bombarding us. A new type of information literacy must be developed for the Internet
age. This is essential to the operation of our democracy and our free market economic
system. We need a more astute citizenry, able to make more intelligent judgments if not
to leap tall buildings in a single bound. 2 If we don’t achieve this, competition in business
will not work properly, election choices will be shortsighted, and our government will not
be able to make tough decisions.

Thousands if not millions of people can participate in what I hope will become a mass
movement that I call NBINo-Bull Information. This will reduce the chances of bank
bailouts, oil spills, elected officials who ignore scientific proof, and anonymous
billionaires who spend obscene amounts of money on election campaigns.
My goals might seem unrealistic and naïve. Once you read a bit further, I am confident you’ll see
this can work and you can be a part of it. The average American is smarter and more analytic than politicians, credit card companies, supermarkets, Super PACs, and TV shows seem to believe.

2While the message of this book is serious, I often am not.
Your first indication is this irreverent reference to Superman’s abilities.

About the Author

Dr. John Gamble is Distinguished Professor of Political Science and International Law at
Penn State’s Behrend College in Erie and Director of Honors Programs. He is the author
of approximately 100 publications and recently won Penn State’s most prestigious award
for teaching, the Milton S. Eisenhower Award for Distinguished Teaching.
Dr. Gamble has stuttered all of his life. As a result, he believes words are precious and
should not be taken for granted; this motivated him to write NO BULL INFORMATION.

His dream for the book is that parents and grandparents will teach their children and
grandchildren NBI techniques and demand clear, concise information from political
leaders and service and product providers.

When you think you have it figured out, the plot twists. People are not who they seem at first.
I enjoy that besides the murder mystery we get more personal background on the de Luca family.

Award winning and best-selling author, Karen Rose Smith’s plots are all about emotion. She began writing in her early teens when she listened to music and created stories to accompany the songs. An only child, she spent a lot of time in her imagination and with books–Nancy Drew, Zane Gray, The Black Stallion and Anne of Green Gables. She dreamed of brothers and sisters and a big family like her mother and father came from. This is the root of her plotlines that include small communities and family relationships as part of everyday living. Residing in Pennsylvania with her husband and four rescued cats, she welcomes interaction with readers on social media.
