It's Oktoberfest in Pittsburgh, and brewpub owner Maxine "Max" O'Hara is prepping for a busy month at the Allegheny Brew House. To create the perfect atmosphere for the boozy celebration, Max hires an oompah band. But when one of the members from the band turns up dead, it's up to Max to solve the murder before the festivities are ruined. Adding to the brewing trouble, Candy, Max's friend, is acting suspicious... Secrets from her past are fermenting under the surface, and Max must uncover the truth to prove her friend's innocence. To make matters worse, Jake's snooty ex-fiancée shows up in town for an art gallery opening, and she'll be nothing but a barrel of trouble for Max.
Joyce Tremel has created a wonderful community of friends and in this book, a series of complicated twists and turns that read like a beloved black and white noir film. OOMPAH!
Max O'Hara is looking foward to her young brewery's first Oktoberfest. She is excited about decorating, finding the perfect band for atmosphere and her kitchen staff is busy creating mouth-watering treats to debut at the festival. Meanwhile, down in the rathskellar... Ha! You don't expect me to give away all the secrets, do you?
Intriguing close friend and fellow culinary entrepreneur Candy plays a major role in the deceivious doings leading up to Oktoberfest. She has never been forthcoming about her past, in fact she has been evasive. She has some surprising skeletons in her closet - including a debonair ex-husband!
Yes, surprising visitors are showing up and not only for Oktoberfest in Pittsburg.
I am betting you will read close to the end before you feel you have it figured out, and still be surprised when all is revealed. BONUS: some of those delicious special treats from the brewpub are shared as recipes.
