About the Author
Kim Cano is the author of two women's fiction novels: A Widow Redefined, her debut novel and On The Inside, a novel about a middle-aged woman who is sentenced to 17 years in prison for committing a white collar crime.

Kim has also written two animal books: For Animal Lovers, a short story collection for kids ages 9 to 12. and for adults who are young at heart. Kim Cano lives in the Chicago suburbs with her husband and cat.

This is one of those books you can not emotionally prepare for.
You know there will be life-hurtling obstacles, seeing as it is a memoir. Life gets messy across decades.
This story continues to tug at your emotions, positive as well as negative:  hope, love, fear.
It is the story of families, their struggles, losses and expansion.
The story of sisters who become best friends and best friends closer than sisters.
It is a tale of the times, segregation, integration, riots; a tumultuous time in this country's history. Dreams followed, unobtainable, delayed.
A love story that seems impossible or improbable at any other time in history but meant to be and just right for these people. Young love that stands the test of time.
Love that hurts as much as it nurtures. Secrets and lies.

Be prepared to experience extremes of joy and sorrow.
It is a highly emotional read. I compare the relationships to a Bette Lee Crosby novel. You feel drawn into the settings and relationships. It feels personal.
What drew me to want to read it was the era and the midwestern location.
