A Pet for Christmas by Rachelle Ayala (Sweet Holiday Romance)

NEW RELEASE...

Dedication
To those who still suffer the wounds of war.

 >>><<<

Kelly Kennedy thought her life was finally on track. Engaged to the man of her dreams and with a baby on the way, she reassures her five-year-old daughter, Bree, that the father she picked for Christmas still loves her.

Unfortunately, war veteran Tyler Manning has been away most of the year. Recovering from PTSD isn’t easy. Rather than worry Kelly, Tyler spends his time traveling to Afghanistan to work at a children's charity he founded.

Kelly decides to distract Bree with promises of a pet for Christmas. When Tyler is taken hostage by terrorists, she finds it hard to convince Bree that they will truly be a family in time for Christmas.

A Pet for Christmas is a sequel A Father for Christmas. While it can be read as a standalone, you'll get more of the relationship aspect between Kelly, Tyler, and Bree by reading A Father for Christmas first.

I will classify this as a clean, Christian military romance. It does read as a stand alone but you will also enjoy the previous book, A Father For Christmas.

Tyler is now a civilian contractor, but his military training and roots are a strong element of his character. Even suffering from PTSD and survivor guilt, he continues to do his best to improve life in Afghanistan. Although his girlfriend, Kelly, is pregnant with his first child, and he loves Kelly's precocious five year old daughter, Bree, as his own, his sense of duty sends him to Afghanistan to prepare his foundation project for winter. The plans are for Tyler to return home to his blossoming family before the holidays.

In a war torn country, plans can not be counted on. Neither can every person
Not only is the foundation project not working as designed, a massive explosion has Tyler running for his life. He cannot contact anyone to help him and the stress takes a toll on Kelly's high risk pregnancy.
Bree is dealing with an identity crisis of her own. All of this as Christmas, which is supposed to be a peaceful, joyous, family time, nears. Kelly begins to doubt Tyler's true motivations.

Filled with suspense, emotions, and continual challenges, this is a soul searching story of survival and strength for each of the main characters.

My review for the previous book in this series

This is a sweet although tumultuous love story.
Kelly is not looking to complicate her life with a romantic relationship. She had enjoyed a wealthier lifestyle as a stock trader until greed and insider trading landed her in jail. She had wanted children and chose to have a daughter via insemination. Now sweet Bree is four years old and realizes some kids have father's. So Bree decides to ask Santa for a Papa of her own.

Tyler Manning had a promising future ahead of him. His sense of duty changed that future when he headed off to Afghanistan for ten years. He might be there still except for injury. Now he is homeless and suffering from PTSD with flashbacks he can't control.

When Bree meets Tyler at the mall, she is convinced Santa left him for her. Kelly, however, is not as trusting. She decides to get to know Tyler better when her family all seems to believe he's a great guy and a hero. Against her initial feelings, Kelly starts to acknowledge the spark between them.

Tyler earns money and donates it all to charity. After listening to Bree talk about wanting a father, he approaches one charity to propose a different type of project, a sports camp in Afghanistan. They agree if he becomes the face for the project. That means a makeover for Tyler.

I really like subway troubadour Sawyer McGee, Tyler's friend. He is loyal with a sense of humor. Nothing in this relationship will flow smoothly.
You have to turn every page and roll with each punch to find out what happens. I know you'll want to read the next exciting book after this.
NOT your typical holiday romance.
