Dating the Prince

Dating the Prince by Alina Snow

Small-town girl, Katie O’Connor has always dreamed of seeing her name in lights. Check the box for fame, a movie deal, the perfect leading role that comes with a gorgeous leading man!

Katie moved to Hollywood, elbows her way into auditions, lives on a shoestring budget—whatever is required to land a deal, she throws her heart into… until she’s involved in a royal kidnapping.

As the future king, Prince Alexander refuses to rule from an ivory tower. Duty-bound, he intends to relate to his future subjects, regardless of their walk of life.
Before his coronation, he needs a foolproof plan to outrun his security team and go temporarily AWOL.

While visiting L.A., all it takes is a sound stage collision and Alex is blindsided by a headstrong woman who is simply irresistible. So much so, he calls in a favor in order to secure her help … as his pretend girlfriend.

Their worlds are oceans apart, but their immediate attraction is impossible to put aside, especially their nonstop banter.

Miffed at being wrangled into a situation that might blow up in her face, Katie comes up with her own plan. If The Prince is serious about walking the walk of the common folk, she’s only too happy to oblige as his pretend girlfriend.

Through an ice storm, a road trip, kitchen duty, and a Texas pig race, Alex captures the hearts of the locals as well as Ms. O’Connor’s. What starts out as a deal Katie can’t refuse becomes the acting role of a lifetime… letting Prince Alexander go without a fight.

A delightfully funny retelling of The Prince and The Pauper that romance readers of all ages will enjoy. On a two-week 1,500-mile road trip, Katie and Alex discover the end of the road might just be the beginning of their ‘Happy Ever After’ together.

A chance encounter changed the course of Katie's life. From early on she had been chasing her dream of being in films and getting noticed. She worked hard and learned how to take advantage of breaks and overheard conversations. Like most people, she also made mistakes and had some regrets. Being the only child of a Texas sheriff, and moving to Hollywood to follow her dreams, she did not tell her parents everything. Would some of her secrets come back to haunt, or possibly hurt, her?

Written in a clean, contemporary format, at a time when the world's eyes are on Britain and a royal wedding, this Cinderella style novel has both a fairy tale quality and the sizzle of romantic suspense.
Katie must determine if her dreams are stronger than her loyalty to family, just as she is drawn into an adventure she comes to think of as a temporary detour. When THAT detour gets rerouted, and her past comes back to endanger her, the man she believes she is protecting changes the plan again, as well as her heart.

As I felt the story was wrapping up in a neat, happily ever after, with potential for a second installation, they fly off together and the tables are turned. Now she must learn how Alex is expected to live, what his life is like and where his dreams and loyalties lie. This section of the book was less fleshed out and my feelings for the "real Prince" were not as strong as the man we got to know thus far. Perhaps I would have liked this section better as a sequel. It certainly has potential. I would have enjoyed for Queen Anne to be even more devious.

It does make the reader wonder if the dreams we have create a clear picture of our ideal lives or if those we envy face difficulties we should be glad not to endure. Overall it is an easy, fanciful , romantic read. Both a retelling and a contemporary imagining. A faint hint at a Princess Diaries sort of tale near the end.
