Amid the evolving conflicts, she resolves to reconstruct her new life and find happiness. Detective Chris Reed is equally resolved to solve the murders as well as Sorrels secrets. Neither of them suspects where the steps of this dance will lead, but they are too stubborn to sit this one out.

Writing and Marketing

Marketing books is an adventure.  It requires courage, energy, and time.
But without readers, a writer's partner in this enterprise, what is the purpose?

I recently had a booth in a Fall Festival, and will be speaking to a Texas Book Club in a couple of weeks. Writers should expect to be involved in that part of the writing process.  I get emotional when someone tells me they "love my books".  I accept opportunities to encourage and interact with readers in traditional and nontraditional places.

The most emotional moment I've had since becoming a novelist came when I visited my daughter Marissa's middle school classes. Afterward, I signed books in the school library.  Her little 6th graders walked in with notebook paper in their hands.  "We'd like an autograph," they said.  "We've never met anyone famous before."  I still get teary at the memory.

I’m currently finishing the fourth book in the Sorrel Janes Mystery. I have a whole new sort of story I had planned to write, plus a fourth Sorrel Janes mystery.  I wrote the beginning chapter of each and literally "flipped a coin".  Sorrel won.  Untold Agony is about half written.

Sorrel is my favorite character because she is so resilient.  She greets each new challenge with energy and courage.  But she is compassionate with others and especially loves critters.  I find her appealingly "real" and an inspiration.  But Christopher Reed is a close second, and I cannot imagine the story without the relationship that is evolving between them.

When writing for the newspaper, Mrs. Head reminded me that people have only limited time or money, so we should make our stories worthwhile.  I use enough description to take the reader with me without their becoming bogged down.
My chapters tend to be short, and I allow actions and dialog to describe my characters more than long passages by the author.  My scenes are less graphic, even when my characters are holding their breaths.

Meet the Author:

Lonna Enox is a former high school and college English instructor. She grew up on a ranch in New Mexico, where she learned to love critters, reading, and "wide open" spaces. She is a wife, mom, and grandmother, as well as the proud owner of 4 rescue pets--3 cats and a dog. Aside from an early stint as a newspaper reporter, she also spent 10 years as a freelance magazine writer. She is happiest exploring a wildlife refuge, cuddling little ones and critters, or snuggled up reading a good mystery. Lonna is a professional writer with over 250 printed articles in a variety of national and regional magazines. She has written in several genres and The Last Dance is her debut mystery.
