I have a confession to make. And I would really appreciate if you could keep this just between us. But it's something I desperately have to get off my chest. Okay, here goes: Sherlock Holmes is not real. 

Whew, that felt really good to say out loud! You see I'm not really used to keeping up with a lie. Okay, I will admit that now and again when my landlord comes looking for the rent I *may* ignore his incessant knocking at the door and pretend I'm not home. But that's not every month, and I do eventually pay my rent as soon as I can afford it. But an actual lie lie, like the colossal lie that has become Sherlock Holmes? I am terrible at those. And I never actually meant for this to happen. 

You see, it all started when I was trying to look into the death of a great-aunt whom I had never known. Honestly all I wanted was to just get to know her a little bit better, if even posthumously. Maybe feel out our family medical history and make sure I don't have some hereditary destiny for an early grave myself. But the more my best friend, Irene Adler, and I looked into it, the more we realized there was something to this death that was not accidental—something much more sinister and murderous—and the more those doors kept getting slammed in our faces. Who knew it would be so difficult for two fashionably focused young women to get authorities to take them seriously? Well, apparently Irene did, because she had the brilliant idea to invent a private investigator named Sherlock Holmes. Suddenly dropping his name and telling the authorities we were official investigators for the famous detective had all those slammed doors opening up like magic! And somehow the whole lie thing just snowballed from there. Open doors turned into a fake PI license and website, and somehow that turned into actual paying clients contacting us. Part of me wanted to stop the ruse. However, did I mention the clients were paying? The thought of not having to hide the next time my landlord came knocking was a pretty enticing one. Enticing enough that Irene and I actually decided to take on a case for Sherlock Holmes. We should have known better. We should have known we were getting in way over our well accessorized heads. Because now we are looking for a missing corpse, investigating a diva of an opera singer, dealing with an undertaker who looks like the undead, and possibly even working for a murderer! The only thing that could complicate our lives even more is if that hot medical examiner, Dr. John Watson, finds out that I've been lying to him all along. So, please keep this just between us. At least until he asks me out on an official date.
