I found the book to be fascinating. A strong storyline and characters I cared about.

I did read this as a stand alone but believe I may have given it even higher stars if I had started this series from the beginning. The era intrigues me and I appreciate strong women or women who worked behind the scenes in wartime. Claire (aka China Blue) and her husband Alain Mitchell both worked with the French Resistance during WWII. This book takes place after the war has ended, but we all know there are lingering consequences. The book takes us from Canada to England to France and back. Much deals with family and those unbreakable friendships made during times of strife. Even when you can never be sure who can be trusted. When Mitch (Alain) is being treated for Shell Shock (now known as PTSD) his doctor says Claire can not ask anything about the treatments. Mitch never makes it to the airport when the family is supposed to return home, planning on a happy holiday gathering. Claire knows he would not willingly disappoint their 8 year old daughter or take off without explanation. Worse, when Mirch's present military superior sends out operatives to find him, Claire knows she can't sit back and depend on the truth or the system. She takes back her old undercover identity, leaves her daughter behind, and goes in search of Mitch.

Author Bio –

Madalyn Morgan has been an actress for more than thirty years working in Repertory theatre, the West End, film and television. She is a radio presenter and journalist, writing articles for newspapers and magazines.

Madalyn was brought up in Lutterworth, at the Fox Inn. The pub was a great place for an aspiring actress and writer to live, as there were so many different characters to study and accents to learn. At twenty-four Madalyn gave up a successful hairdressing salon and wig-hire business for a place at E15 Drama College, and a career as an actress.

In 2000, with fewer parts available for older actresses, Madalyn taught herself to touch type, completed a two-year correspondence course with The Writer’s Bureau, and started writing. After living in London for thirty-six years, she has returned to her home town of Lutterworth, swapping two window boxes and a mortgage, for a garden and the freedom to write.

Happy to be an Indie Author, Madalyn has successfully published six novels. Foxden Acres, Applause, China Blue and The 9:45 To Bletchley are set before and during WW2 and tell the wartime stories of Bess, Margot, Claire, and Ena Dudley. Foxden Hotel and Chasing Ghosts are both post war.  Chasing Ghosts is a sequel to China Blue.
