But when the groom is your ex and someone invites murder, there may never be another tomorrow . . .Mallory’s fine—really—handling the wedding arrangements for her ex, Keith. But his fiancée, Becca, has at the last minute decided to switch from a Japanese-cherry-blossom theme to a Gone with the Wind theme. She wants to honor her ailing grandmother, who owns an impressive collection of GWTW memorabilia—and who is fiercely at odds with the groom’s mother over the nuptial plans. But among other complications, Becca gets into a fight with an old childhood rival over a replica Scarlett O’Hara wedding gown. She wins the dress—but soon becomes a murder suspect when the other woman is found dead in Becca’s swimming pool. And it’s up to Mallory to solve the mystery behind this unhappy occasion, before a different kind of civil war breaks out . . .
Mallory Shepard from Stephanie Blackmoore’s Gown with the Wind:
Some people would think it’s insane to plan the
wedding for your ex-fiancé. Maybe they’re right! Especially when the bride is
the woman he cheated with. But everyone deserves to have the kind of wedding
they want, to craft lasting memories of their big day and the beginning of
their marriage. And who better to make it happen than me? I’m Port Quincy,
Pennsylvania’s premiere wedding planner. I can’t turn away a bride in need,
even if we have a rather fraught history.
That’s how I’ve found myself in my current pickle.
My newest project is helming the nuptials of my former beau, Keith Pierce, and
his bride Becca Cunningham. I can understand why Keith wants to get married at
my Bed and Breakfast and wedding venue, Thistle Park. The mansion belonged to
his grandmother. It was quite a shock when she bequeathed the hulking home to
me instead of her grandson. There is one person who won’t be happy when she
finds out where the wedding is to be held. Keith’s mom is a bit of a
steamroller. She didn’t earn the nickname Hurricane Helene for nothing. And
after several years of dealing with her shenanigans, I feel I owe it to Keith’s
new fiancée to spare her the issues I myself went through. Helene took over the
planning of my own wedding that didn’t go off, and I want to relieve Becca from
suffering the same fate. As they say, keep your friends close, and your enemies
even closer.
All I have to do is stay calm, collected, and
professional. Easy peasy! There is the one, teeny-tiny issue of the woman
murdered in Keith and Becca’s swimming pool. I’ve tried to live a quiet,
trouble-free life in Port Quincy. But murder and mayhem seem to find me anyway.
Not that it’s hurt business at the Bed and Breakfast I run, or dissuaded
couples from using my wedding planning services. If anything, the strange
murders I’ve helped to solve have piqued people’s interest. Business is
booming.
But this last murder is especially unsettling. The
bride’s childhood rival turned up dead in her pool, floating in the resplendent
gown the two women had just fought over in a bridal shop. A replica Gone With the Wind wedding dress, to be
exact. I’m not too fond of Becca, but I don’t want her to get hurt. I figured
this wedding would be a doozy, but I hadn’t predicted murder on the menu. I
just need to take a deep breath, whip up a southern-couture reception and
dishes, and then I’ll be done with my ex and his new bride forever. That is, if
we can all make it out alive…
