Summary from Goodreads:

Mystery surrounds the town of Summertime, Indiana, where fifteen-year-old Tommy Walker and his little sister are sent to live with relatives they’ve never met. Tommy soon makes friends with Finn Wilds, a rebellious local who lives with his volatile and abusive stepfather, who also happens to be the town’s sheriff.

Finn invites Tommy to late night meetings in the woods, where Tommy gets to know two girls. He forms a special and unique connection with both girls. The meetings become a place where the kids, who don’t fit in at school, or home can finally belong. As the group of friends begin to unravel clues to a cold case murder and kidnapping— they learn the truth is darker and closer than they ever imagined. Even if they live to tell, will anyone believe them?

It took a while for me to really get sucked into this book. Give it time and get to know the characters. The mystery and danger really pick up speed.
When 15 year old Tommy and his younger sister have to leave Chicago and move to Indiana, to live with an aunt and uncle they do not know, he hangs out with a couple slightly younger kids, also misfits, those who don't quite belong with the majority. Quirky individuals, but they form their own group of sorts.
Tommy is embarrassed about why they have to move, but this new town has plenty of secrets to be uncovered. Finn is the other perspective from which this story is told. He has a stepfather who abuses his position and a stepbrother who is mean and intimidating. The writing is very realistic.
There is teenage discomfort as well as first interests in romance, but above all is the feeling out of place that you don't realize all kids have. It feels so personal.

The suspense and mystery are so well done that a parent reading along with their young reader enjoys this book equally as much.
