High summer in River Bluffs, Indiana, is always sweltering and sweet. But the heat is really on when a decidedly dead body turns up in the neighborhood.
When established house flippers Jazzi Zanders and her cousin Jerod donate a week’s worth of remodeling work to Jazzi’s sister Olivia, they’re expecting nothing more than back-breaking roofing work and cold beers at the end of each long, hot day. With Jazzi’s live-in boyfriend and partner Ansel on the team, it promises to be a quick break before starting their next big project—until Leo, an elderly neighbor of Olivia’s, unexpectedly goes missing . . .
When the friendly senior’s dog tugs Jazzi and the guys toward the wetlands beyond Olivia’s neighborhood, they stumble across a decomposing corpse—and a lot of questions. With Jazzi’s pal Detective Gaff along to investigate, Jazzi finds her hands full of a whole new mystery instead of the usual hammer and nails. And this time it will take some sophisticated sleuthing to track down the culprit of the deadly crime—before the killer turns on her next . . .

Representing both mystery and romance, this book is aimed at fans of both the Hallmark and HGTV channels. Much of the action takes place while working on the roof of a house owned by Jazzi's sister Olivia and her boyfriend. Jazzi, her cousin and friends flip houses, doing the renovation work themselves.
From on the roof, much of the neighborhood can be seen. Other things are seen when walking a dog or sitting in the shadows on a bicycle. We learn early on that a special man is missing. Only when his body is discovered, do we learn that he is not the only victim.
Jazzi is very close with her family, getting together often and helping each other out as needed. Her live-in boyfriend, Ansel has a very different family. They sent him away when he decided not to be their go-to problem solver. Now they want him back, but only because they don't want to pay for the help they need.
To be honest, I did not like Ansel's character much. He comes across as shallow and self serving. He is pushing for a commitment from Jazzi based on insecurity. To me, that is unattractive, no matter how good looking the package. He has an adoring pug, George, who seems to fill the role Ansel is looking for.

This is a cozy, in the sense that Jazzi, a civilian, seems to be the one finding the clues and solving the mystery. It is more than that because of all the other elements that come into play.
