A Wedding in Cornwall (Cornwall #1) by Laura Briggs

A Wedding in Cornwall

It’s the career move of a lifetime, and Julianne can’t believe it’s hers: a position as an event planner at a country house in Cornwall, England, beginning with the wedding of a celebrity!

If her old firm's senior planner back in the States hadn't fallen suddenly sick with the chicken pox, Julianne would never have found herself chosen for a life in one of England's most beautiful coastal counties, surrounded by rugged shores, quaint cottages, elegant gardens and a house to die for.

But life in Cornwall isn't exactly as Julianne imagined it. Her first bride-to-be is a resentful, petted snob, the groom is immature and bored, and the Cornish staff of Cliffs House has a difficult time believing that an event planner from a mid-level position can handle a wedding this big.

And then there's a personal matter -- the handsome, sometimes charming, sometimes standoffish gardener Matthew Rose. He and Julianne have a strangely complicated relationship somewhere between friendship and attraction. But with a secret in his past, and a scheming bridesmaid plotting to have Matthew all to herself, will Julianne find a way to untangle her feelings and the problems of planning a perfect Cornish wedding?

What Readers Are Saying about A Wedding in Cornwall

Thank you so much to Laura for allowing me to share about my Cornish romance series with her lovely readers! I can’t believe I’m already celebrating the 3rd anniversary for Book One, A Wedding in Cornwall. Who knew that penning American event planner Julianne’s first adventure at a Cornish manor house across the pond would lead to multiple sequels and such a loyal readership for the novellas? It continues to be among my most popular works and I thought it might be lovely to share with you what some of these readers are saying they like most about the series.

It has a feel good factor

Love, love, love the fact that some readers think A Wedding in Cornwall is a go-to, escapist kind of read! Seeing reviews from those who curl up with Julianne’s adventure and a nice cuppa by the fire—or else, lounge on the beach on holiday somewhere with their eReader in the sun—really reminds me that the goal of this series is to entertain. A grand setting (Cliffs House) and a series of grand events (including a holiday ball and a televised baking contest!) has swept many a reader off from their daily routine and I love hearing that it’s hard for some of them to put down!

The characters feel like old friends!

This is such an honor, and a sentiment that many readers have expressed for the series now. They find Cliffs House and Ceffylgwyn to be a welcoming world full of familiar faces. They enjoy catching up with Julianne, her Poldark-esque true love Matthew, the lord and lady of the manor, the no-nonsense chef Dinah, and the young maids Pippa and Gemma and meeting new faces that appeared throughout the series. A particular fan favorite seems to have been Kitty, Julianne’s streetsmart assistant, who won readers over despite my own initial fears that she might seem out of place when appearing mid-way through the series. Instead, she proved so popular that she received her own special narrative in both A Bake Off in Cornwall and A Castle in Cornwall.

It transports you to Cornwall

I’m still amazed how many readers say that Julianne’s highly fictionalized Cornish village reminds them of the real deal. Being an American author who has never even visited that part of England, I know there are many, many mistakes in my depiction of the culture and landscape. Nonetheless, there are readers who remark on how it captures the spirit of their favorite place. Some of them are native Cornish and others simply have wonderful memories of holidays to its lovely shores, but I’m truly honored that so many would feel that my descriptions come anywhere close to depicting the beauty that I’ve so far witnessed only via pictures and cinema (though I definitely hope to see it in person someday!)

If you haven’t read A Wedding in Cornwall or its sequel books yet, I do hope you’ll give them a look. The series is available as individual novellas, as well as two handy digital book bundle editions—and there’s even a paperback collection for those who prefer the classic way of reading!

A wonderful start to a charming series. I like the characters and how they are getting to know each other. Friendships are being made.
The romance part of this first in series is not overwhelming, but gentle as becomes a great and enduring series.
