While this book can be enjoyed as a stand-alone novella, if you plan to read the books in the Windy Pines Mystery series or The Port Elspeth Jewelry Making Club, it's highly recommended you read those first, as this book contains spoilers that could affect your ability to enjoy them.

Holly`s writing gets better and better with each book I read. While you can read and enjoy this book all on it`s cozy own, the author does admit up front that this book has characters you will recognize from Holly’s other books: Murder at Mistletoe Manor, The Port Elspeth Jewelry Making Club, and Carnage at the Christmas Party.
She has a way of making you feel welcomed at the same time as you worry about not surviving the night. The atmosphere is set deliciously dark and warm, even with a blizzard on the horizon.
If you have already read a book about Mistletoe Manor, you know not to hold your breath waiting for the police to show up on time or put the clues together in proper order.
The characters are described well enough to get a sense of who we like, dislike, feel empathy for and are suspect about. Klarinda is a reluctant Inn keeper having doubts about continuing down this career path. Her romantic life has not been panning out as she hopes.
Can she ever catch a break? Or can she catch a killer?
