Cooking with Bentley
Bentley is a VERY large dog, and he needs a lot of food to keep that large body working at maximum capacity. Bentley needs good, old fashioned, hearty food. He tried being a vegetarian for a while, but it just didn’t work out for him. Dogs really like meat, and this dish has a lot of it. You can add as many carbs as you like depending on how thick you make the delicious layer of mashed potatoes on top! He does like to add some veggies to his meaty-delicious recipes for all those added nutrients, though!
Here’s a dish his human makes for him every Sunday. It’s a secret ‘Olde English’ recipe passed down from generation to generation, so don’t share it with anyone!!!!!!
Bentley’s Cottage Pie
Ingredients:
Topping:
Large bag of russet potatoes
Stick of butter
Dash of milk
Salt and pepper to taste
The Rest:
Several pounds of ground beef (depending how big your dish is. Bentley’s is ENORMOUS)
1 bag frozen sliced carrots
I bag frozen peas
1 white or yellow onion
Sliced mushrooms (optional)
Dark brown gravy (how much depends on how much meat)
Salt and Pepper to taste
Instructions:
Heat oven to 390 degrees F.
Peel potatoes, cut into chunks and boil till soft.
In large saucepan, cook ground beef until brown. Drain fat.
In a frying pan, peel, chop and fry up onions.
Add carrots, peas, and gravy to meat. (Mixture should be firm but sloppy – good luck with that!)
Add onions and let it all simmer while you drain and mash potatoes.
BENTLEY TIP – don’t add too much milk. You want the potatoes to be firm.
Put the meat mixture in bottom of large casserole type dish and spread potatoes on top with a fork.
Bake in oven until potatoes start getting crispy. Yum Yum.
There you have it!!!! Bentley’s Cottage Pie. Bentley recommends that you make the gravy using bone broth, for obvious reasons! Bentley likes to eat his Cottage Pie with lots of ketchup and a delicious bone on the side.
Bone appetit!!!!!
I loved this book. Perfect for any animal lover, especially dog lovers.
I especially love that Bentley is a BIG dog.
People misunderstand Bentley because of his size. It is hard for him to make friends.
Fortunately he has a Fairy Dogmother looking out for him.
This is a book about using ones imagination.
It is about giving others a chance or a second chance.
It shows children how to find the good in each day and teaches about sharing, even when it seems hard.
This is a book I will happily read again and again.
