More Joy Than One Could Imagine

For several months during the pandemic, we stayed at my mother’s home to escape the city. She lived near a pond, well, several ponds. One pond in particular had a soon-to-be swan family. Our daughters -

- age three, five, and six at the time -- loved to watch these swans. They tried to imagine how many babies they were having. They tried guessing how many would be boys and how many would be girls. My daughters would try to guess their names before they hatched. The world was at a standstill, and this sweet swan family brought us so much joy.

It was an exciting July morning when we saw the swan family all swimming in the pond together. The babies, also known as cygnets, had hatched. There were two white and one black cygnet. At this point, I already wrote The Missing Egg. My precious little girls called the black swan Cocoa, like the character who loved chocolate cake.

Over the summer, we watched them grow and interact with each other. It was so simple, but so dear. We really looked forward to seeing the swans every day. When we came back to my mother’s home over the Christmas holiday, we were surprised to see them together in a small part of the pond that didn’t freeze. Our beloved swan family didn’t fly south for the winter, and it was an extra special Christmas to wonder how they would celebrate together. Our daughters would try to guess what Santa would bring the baby swans, who were now the same size as their parents.

Sadly, when we came to my mother’s home over the Easter holiday, we only saw one swan. My mother follows a neighborhood blog and came to learn that the swan family was eaten by a coyote. When she told me this, I felt absolutely terrible. I almost cried. How was I supposed to tell the girls? During this awful time in the world, this sweet-swan family became a highlight of happiness in our day. Heck -- I even made them main characters in my book!

In this neighborhood blog, hundreds of neighbors shared how devastated they also were by the news of what happened to the swan family. They shared how they also watched the swan family grow together. This swan family wasn’t just our family’s happiness highlight. They brought so much joy to so many people who lived nearby. Here we were, living in a world of quarantine, feeling isolated and with very little non-family member human contact, and yet, all of these strangers found joy in a common thread. People have more in common than they realize. We also find joy in the same things and are devastated by the same things. I hope my books and The Missing Egg bring joy to many different people. I hope this sweet swan family and the joy they brought so many lives on in The Missing Egg.

This is the perfect "Uncle's Book." I can see my brothers having fun reading this to my kids.

Told with a sense of humor  and enjoyable images, this book explores what happens when Mom takes a break, leaving Dad to sit on the nest. Some things are too tempting to resist, not only for Dad, but also... well, I can't tell you that.

When the mystery is solved, some catch on sooner than others.

A good laugh is had by all.

Meet the Author:

Bobos began writing poetry and stories at the early age of ten. She is a life-long Chicagoan who now raises her family in the downtown area. During the 2020 Coronavirus Pandemic, Chicago also became a city of unrest. Trying to keep her three young daughters in a world of magic during such scary times, the Bobos Babes Adventures were born. Her goal was to create a world of Harmony for her family and hopefully for others to escape, even if only for a moment. The first book of the series, The Case of the Giggles, was published in December 2020. The Missing Egg launched in March 2021. Thus far, she has written ten Bobos Babes Adventures and two chapter books. Two additional books, The Lion's Secret and The Bobcat Birthday Party, are coming in 2021.
