LA’s SPEAK EASY HOST Elle Darcy
Interviews Lillian Callahan
Elle: Good morning LA! Today we have a special treat for
you. Lilian Callahan is with us. You all know her best as the gorgeous actress
who played Andra Weis for twelve seasons on Not Another Day. The
character we all loved to hate finally went too far and her devious life as a
television vixen ended in a hail of bullets when professional hitmen took her
out. Let’s find out what Lily’s doing now that she’s left the show!
Thanks for joining us, Lily.
Lily: It’s my pleasure, Elle. It’s good to see you.
Elle: When Andra Weis was killed of on the show, were you
surprised? She was a very popular character.
Lily: I wasn’t surprised, because I knew it was coming. I
was puzzled because as you said, Andra was a favorite television she-devil.
Elle: Do you miss playing a she-devil?
Lily: Actually, I
don’t miss it because I’ve resurrected Andra Weis.
Elle: How can that be? Not Another Day is in its
last season from what I’ve been told.
Lily: Yes, but Not Another Day Please! is in its
first season and it’s been a big hit!
Elle: Okay, you’ve just got to tell me more. I’ve heard
all sorts of rumors about what you’re doing now. So, it’s a real scoop to hear this
from you!
Lily: Well, my life changed dramatically, Elle. Not so
much because I left the show, but because my beloved aunt passed away and left
her business to me.
Elle: Oh, I read something about that. By business you
mean a Vineyard and Winery, don’t you?
Lily: Yes. I lived with my aunt and grew up there. I
loved the place, but I felt I’d made my home in Hollywood. Then everything
changed.
Elle: So, what does this have to do with resurrecting
Andra Weis?
Lily: This is really exciting news I have to share. In
addition to the Calla Lily Vineyard and Winery, much to my surprise my aunt
built an outdoor theater—The Calla Lily Playhouse. With a few friends, we
managed to pull together a fast, funny farce with Andra stirring up plenty of
trouble. Julie Hemsley, one of the writers on the soap, wrote the script—about
twenty times. Melody Skidmore reprised her role from Not Another Day and
I’m sure you remember Zelda from the guest spot you did on the show.
Elle: Who could ever forget Zelda Gomez! She’s a hoot!
I’ve never met a funnier person, although I’ve never seen her perform on stage
or in front of the camera.
Lily: Well you may get to see her on film, soon.
Elle: Ooh, another question I had for you was what brings
you to LA. I take it you’re here in LA playing Let’s Make a Deal
Hollywood-style?
Lily: Yes, I am, and I’m happy to say, we’ve got a deal
on one of the projects I came to town to discuss. A film crew is heading to
wine country to film a live performance of Not Another Day Please! A
press release ought to hit the airwaves any minute now.
Elle: You heard it on Speak Easy first, folks! Can you
tell us anything about the other projects you’re here to pitch?
Lily: No deal yet, but we’re getting close, Elle. Not
everything that’s gone on since I returned to Napa Valley has been fun and
games—far from it, in fact.
Elle: You can’t be talking about that devastatingly
handsome cowboy you’ve been photographed with several times. That smile says
fun and games to me, darling.
Lily: He’s not just a pretty face. My cowboy is a Deputy
U.S. Marshal and he’s saved my neck more than once. You’re right, though, that
I’m not talking about him. Life in
small-town California wine country has turned out to be a tangled vine of
mystery, suspense, and intrigue.
Elle: Wow! That line has
just got to be part your pitch.
Lily: It is! There’s so
much more to go with it—including elements from real events in wine country.
Anyway, the other project that’s in discussion is a television mystery
series—The Calla Lily Mysteries—set in and around the Calla Lily Vineyards. Some
of the pieces are in place, so I’m hopeful we’ll move this project along soon,
too.
Elle: Is there a role in
the series for an adorable little Miniature Pinscher like your dog, Marlowe?
Lily: You never know how a
project will turn out once it goes into development, but Marlowe certainly had
a role to play in the real-life mysteries that inspired this series.
Elle: With the vineyard,
the winery, the playhouse, and two film projects in the works, you are one busy
woman. I’m honored you found the time to join us.
Lily: I’m the one who’s
honored, Elle. It’s always a treat to be here with you. And, as usual, your
audience rocks!

Life is an extravaganza! Figuring out how to hang tough and make the most of the wild ride is the challenge.
On my way to Oahu, to join the rock musician and high school drop-out I had married in Tijuana, I was nabbed as a runaway. Eventually, the police let me go, but the rock band broke up.
Retired now, I’m still married to the same sweet guy and live with him near Palm Springs, California.
I write the Jessica Huntington Desert Cities Mystery series set here in the Coachella Valley, the Corsario Cove Cozy Mystery Series set along California’s Central Coast, The Georgie Shaw Mystery series set in the OC, The Seaview Cottages Cozy Mystery Series set on the so-called American Riviera, just north of Santa Barbara, and The Calla Lily Mystery series where the murder and mayhem take place in California’s Wine Country.
