What is your ideal environment to write in?

I prefer to write in an environment that is quiet and free from distractions. I try to separate myself mentally from work or my daily routine so it’s usually somewhere like the living room or bedroom rather than the office.

How do you edit your books?

Editing Bob the Banana Goes Bad was a collaborative effort. It involved a frequent exchange of edits between myself, my co-author, and the publishing company of the narrative, images, and layout. It was exciting to see ideas begin to mold into a finished product.

How was working with an illustrator?

Working with an illustrator was very exciting. I had already illustrated the book when I had first created it years ago, so keeping it in line with that original look and feel was important. The illustrator that we chose, Juan Diaz, not only met that requirement, but also exceeded expectations by adding his own personal touch and humor to the illustrations.

How did you feel when you had your book in hand?

Getting the first print copy of the book was very exciting. It looked even better than it did in digital format and I couldn’t wait to start distributing it.

Who were the first people you gave your book out to?

The first people we gave our book to were our neighbors. They have young kids and we were eager to see how they would react to them. I also gave a few copies to my parents and sisters.

Meet the Authors:

Steve Petzinger first created the concept for Bob the Banana when he was just twelve years old. His mother kept the original version, and over the years, his family urged him to publish it. In 2020, he decided to finally take their advice.

Petzinger sought help from his close friend, Selia Akbar-Hussain, who has been teaching preschool for eight years. She has read hundreds of children’s books and is knowledgeable about children’s books content. After months of hard work, their dreams of publishing a children's book came true.

A fun brief story about what goes on in the refrigerator when the door is closed.

A cute introduction to several fruits and vegetables with clever names.

The expressions on their faces are wonderful and can lead to further discussion.

Nonsensical adventure will lead to alarm, concern, some giggles, and then understanding.

This book is a good choice for children too young to read and simple enough for young readers to read to younger siblings.
